n some Christian circles, many topics and
aspects of life are often neglected or even
swept under the rug. Lucinda Kinsinger ('22)
is a blogger and author who challenges these
topics by writing about real life. Her goal in writing
is to explore life through questions, and the
vulnerability she displays within her blog created
an unexpected platform, a lifelong relationship
and a path to Lancaster Bible College.
In 2014, Lucinda began her blog, " Properties of
Light, " to introduce herself as an author and create
an audience of readers. She hoped to become a
book writer and saw her chance to gain a writing
reputation through blogging. " I did not know what
to expect. I just started blogging, " says Lucinda.
" [My blog] gave me a place to share things in
real time [and has] given me a lot more courage
for book writing. " Although her goal was
to gain an audience, Lucinda didn't
foresee the impact her blog would
have on readers.
" LBC helped
me gain more
confidence by
seeing what
I am able to
excel in within
communication. "

Lucinda connects with those
who read her blog as she writes
honestly about her life. " I hope
to write real, vital, original artful
work in a meaningful way, " says
Lucinda. She bases much of her
blog writing on her experiences,
not only as a Mennonite
woman but also as a
Christian processing
her beliefs through
her writing. Due
to her honest
words,
Lucinda's
blog has
created a circle of like-minded people furthering
the reach of her writing platform.
As her blog grew, Lucinda began searching for
publishers interested in her books. Lucinda admits
finding an interested publisher was a journey, but
for her, " the most exciting part is the writing. " Three
years after her first blog post, Lucinda's first book,
" Anything but Simple: My Life as a Mennonite, " was
published in July 2017. Then her children's book,
" The Arrowhead, " was published just four months
later. Lucinda's most recent book, " Turtle Heart, "
was released in August 2021.
With a growing author platform, Lucinda still held
to another piece of her dream: receiving a college
education. As a lifelong learner, she pursued her
dream with the help of one of her blog readers.
After blogging about online courses taken while
living at home in Wisconsin and her dream to
further her education, a reader of Lucinda's
blog reached out with a suggestion of a
college in Boston. " I have you, my blog
readers, to thank for this, " wrote Lucinda
in a blog post updating her readers on
her college decision. " I love how much
my blog readers have become a part of
my life, weighing in on major decisions. "
In the fall of 2018, Lucinda moved to
Boston and began attending
Sattler College.
Lucinda was correct
in saying her readers
" have become
part of [her] life. "
In fact, her
blog served
as the
