round the World in 80 Days " is the 1873 Jules Verne classic chronicling the adventures
of London's Phileas Fogg. Motivated by a £20,000 wager, the intrepid Fogg sets off to
circumnavigate the globe-in just 80 days.
We chuckle using the adverb " just, " for what was considered a " mere 80 days " in 1873 feels long
and wearisome in 2022. Today, my " slow " satellite internet transmits a request to a satellite
22,000 miles out in space, which routes it to a Network Operations Center, which locates the
data I requested, transmits it back to the satellite, which returns it to my home-all in about
one second.

And that feels slow to me!
High-speed transportation makes global circumnavigation possible in hours-not days-but
it is high-speed communication that has transformed our daily lives: from texts, emails and
on-demand entertainment, to global newspapers, to 24-hour network news and minute-tominute
updates on a conflict half a world away.
High-speed communication has also transformed the way we educate. Students no longer
need to travel to brick-and-mortar institutions to learn and discern God's call. Online education
has changed that for good. The global pandemic has only accelerated the change.
Building on the foundation laid by my predecessor, LBC | Capital continues to invest in making
901 Eden Road a destination location for residential undergraduate students. That will not
change. At the same time, we recognize the tremendous opportunities online education
affords.
* We are reaching students around the globe: 19 countries outside the U.S. are represented
by enrolled students.
* We are collaborating for kingdom advancement: 254 students from partnering institutions
or networks taking classes.
* We are adding stellar, mission-fit faculty and staff for an exceptional biblically integrated
and a highly personal online experience.
* We are extending our mission; since 1933, Lancaster Bible College has remained steadfast,
educating Christian students to think and live a biblical worldview and to proclaim Christ
by serving Him in the Church and society.
In this issue of The ECHO, we will share several snapshots of the great ways God is at work
" online " through LBC | Capital. I think you will see why we are so encouraged!
As you read this issue, I hope you will join me in expressing gratitude to the Lord for our
team. Ecclesiastes 4:9 tells us, " Two are better than one, because they have a good return
for their toil. " Amen to that. We are seeing a GREAT return in missional impact due to the
collaborative efforts of the women and men who give their best every day to serve the
Lord by equipping students to live on mission for Christ.
It is a different day. It is a different world-a world not even Jules Verne could have imagined.
What a privilege that we get to be on mission for the Lord in the midst of it.
