his season, the Lancaster Bible College Athletic Department
welcomed John Clemens to the role of Interim Head Softball Coach.
Clemens started working with the Chargers softball program during
the spring of 2021 when he joined the staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
During the fall semester, Clemens oversaw all the team's activities during
its non-traditional season.
" I am very excited for the opportunity to serve as Interim Head Coach for
LBC softball, " said Clemens. " We had a lot of talent for the 2022 season.
Many of the players on this team are dual-sports athletes. My goal is for
each of them to maximize their capabilities and come together as the
elite softball team I believe they can be. "
Prior to joining the staff at LBC, Clemens was part of the coaching staff
for the Coatesville Lady Steel Organization, where he led his 16U and 18U
teams to a record of 88-55-7.
" Ideally, our games will be a reflection of the hard work we have done
ahead of time, " Clemens added. " Repetition, consistency and discipline are
our main focus. If our players can keep their eyes fixed on the Lord and
seek to glorify Him through their actions and words on and off the field,
they will be successful. "
Added Director of Athletics Rod Baughman, " We are excited to have
Coach Clemens join our team. He has been a stabilizing force during our
eight-month transition. He cares deeply about the team, he has a great
knowledge of the game, and I believe he will move our program in the
right direction. "
Outside of softball, Clemens worked for The Boeing Company for the
past 38 years as a network engineer. Clemens attends Calvary Chapel of
Chester Springs, where he serves as a church elder and leads the missions
team. Clemens' family has roots at LBC | Capital, with his son Zach ('21)
being a member of the baseball and men's track & field teams before
graduation. His daughter, Phoebe ('24), is a member of the softball team
as well as the women's cross country team.
" I'm glad to have Nicole (DeKok '21) Shaffer as an assistant coach, "
Clemens said. " Her understanding of the game and past experiences at
LBC is a great asset to the team. I'm also very fortunate to have Seth
Goodyear assisting this season. His many years of coaching and his
passion for the game of softball will be key in developing our program. "
