clinics, which focus on providing prescription
and reading glasses to those living in locations
where MMO hosts trips. Volunteers clean donated
glasses, make minor repairs and label the
prescriptions of the lenses.
" I can't describe the feeling when someone puts
on a pair of glasses for the first time and can see
clearly, " Julie said. " Their faces just light up. "
Medical Missions Outreach led trips this spring
to the Dominican Republic and Philippines, with
additional trips this summer planned for Malawi,
Honduras, Peru, Zambia, Ivory Coast, Trinidad and
South Africa. Because Julie is part of the MMO
" Tribe " as a monthly supporter, she'll be part of a
special trip in September 2022 to the Galapagos
Islands.
" MMO went there last summer and had so many
patients that came to see them that many had
to be turned away due to limited time, " Julie
said. " That's always heartbreaking! The locals
were so grateful that someone had come to help
them. Of course, the islands are very popular
for tourists, but people do not go there with the
intent to provide any assistance to the locals. "
While Julie feels connected to all the countries
she's traveled to, she also feels connected to
Lancaster, not only because of her LBC education
and nearby hometown but also through her
workplace now serving patients in the area.
That sense of community permeates all that Julie
holds close, from the villages she's visited to her
LBC courses where she was in community with
others who also desired a Christian education
rooted in a biblical worldview. With a good bit
of life experience behind her, and much more
ahead of her too, her younger LBC classmates
appreciated her openness about her life story
and perspectives.
" As an adult learner, just being able to answer
questions from my real-life workplace experience
helped my younger classmates, " Julie said. But
even more, she loves witnessing how others
shine their light, as she's ever-aware of the
importance of shining her own.
" There are always ways you can shine your light, "
Julie said, " even if it's been a rough road. "
Julie Eisenhauer ('22) gifted her interpreter on a medical
missions trip to Tanzania a Lancaster Bible College shirt,
as she aims to personalize her gifts and make them
local. Makoye is an organic spice farmer who came
to Christ after attending a Medical Missions Outreach
clinic in 2015.
