LBC Echo Winter 2022 - 19
By Dr. Beau Walker, Vice President for Global Education
ancaster Bible College | Capital
Seminary & Graduate School has
embarked on what we're calling
a " Wildly Important Goal " -or WIG-
to increase the college's online offerings
from 10 to 35 programs by Dec. 31, 2022.
We are keenly aware of the incredible
level of detail involved in planning for
and accomplishing this goal that will
impact potential students in every corner
of the world.
The compelling impetus for " global
enrollment " is not growth, though we
believe enrollment numbers will increase
as we increase program offerings and
marketing efforts. The central focus for
this global mission is to expand LBC |
Capital's kingdom impact.
The college has already accomplished
two significant milestones as we craft
the ecosystem necessary for ensuring
quality and scalability. First, leadership has
identified and approved the programs
that will make up the 35 online offerings.
In fact, three new master's programs
are available online as of January 2022:
Master of Arts in Biblical Studies, Master
of Arts in Ministry and Master of Divinity.
Secondly, the college has finalized the
organizational structure for a new Global
Enrollment Department.
Wildly Important Goal-
Online Programs
In October 2021, Provost Tricia
Wilson, department chairs and myself
collaborated to identify academic
programs for the Wildly Important Goal.
Initially, it was thought that many of
the WIG programs would consist of
converting already-existing traditional
undergraduate programs to an online
format. However, we quickly realized
our best opportunity is to create new
programs, mostly at the graduate level.
As a result, LBC | Capital is offering or
planning to offer three certificates, three
new undergraduate degree programs, 13
new graduate programs and one new
doctoral program online!
An immediate need for converting
existing adult education programs to
an eight-week, masterized format, plus
developing nearly 100 courses, is to
identify subject matter experts. We have
been attentive to ensuring the individuals
who invest in the creation of these
programs and courses (Subject Matter
Experts, Instructional Designers, etc.)
have the " LBC DNA. "
We've been intentional to consider the
term " outsourcing " and whether this
practice will sacrifice the mission and
quality of an LBC | Capital education. Our
academic departments and the Office
of Digital Learning are not looking to
" outsource " these new opportunities
within the global education realm. Rather,
Subject Matter Experts, Instructional
Designers and future Global Faculty will
be fully " onboarded " with LBC | Capital.
They will go through a similar hiring and
onboarding process that current faculty
and staff walked through as we each
excitedly looked to the work the Lord
has for us here at LBC | Capital.
Fortunately, many experts around the
world are passionate believers in Jesus
and seek to proclaim Him by serving
Him in the Church, society and their
professions-wherever they may be.
Even better, many of us are connected
to networks of like-minded believers who
would love the opportunity to invest in
developing new courses and programs for
LBC | Capital and expand the global reach
of our mission. The Lord has blessed us in
our professional and academic journeys
with rich relationships for such a time as
this. We are asking for those connected
with the college to think of their networks
and ask the Lord to identify and lead
qualified, passionate kingdom builders
to invest in the work of LBC | Capital.
Global Enrollment
In examining the enrollment
management ecosystem necessary to
scale and to provide the best possible
student service and experience, it is
necessary to align definitions, policies,
processes and engagement strategies.
Currently, five non-traditional enrollment
units exist within LBC | Capital: three sites
(Lancaster, Philadelphia and Washington,
D.C.), online and the Seminary & Graduate
School, with each unit having specific
nuances pertaining to enrollment policies,
admissions requirements, recruiting
strategies and approaches to student
onboarding and student success.
As of Jan. 1, 2022, these five enrollment
units were consolidated into one Global
Enrollment Department with three
primary divisions: Recruiting, Admissions
and Student Success, reporting to the
Vice President for Global Education. As
a result, students and staff at our site
locations will be better resourced and
equipped to sustain and thrive in the
years ahead. The benefits to our students
and Global Enrollment staff will be many.
Functional expertise will equip our staff
with aligned definitions, data-informed
processes and holistic training for
increased student engagement, enhanced
student experience and increased student
success.
To quote A. Michael Black, Dean and Site
Director of LBC | Capital - Washington,
D.C., " God is up to something at LBC! "
We are humbled to play a small role in
establishing the " Kingdom on Earth as it
is in Heaven " around the world through
biblical higher education.
We are so very thankful for the work
God has given us. Let us continue to
pray together for unity and for the Lord to
multiply the fruit from our labor. Dr. Elmer
Towns was famous for saying, " Methods
are many and principles are few. Methods
always change, principles never do. " Our
mission must drive our efforts-especially
in this Wildly Important Goal of taking LBC
| Capital education to the world.
