ancaster Bible College | Capital Seminary &
Graduate School has had a growing presence in
Philadelphia since 2012, and since then, hundreds
of students and graduates have gone on to fulfill the
LBC | Capital mission to " proclaim Christ by serving
Him in the Church and society. "
The history of LBC | Capital's Philadelphia location can
be traced to the Center for Urban Theological Studies
(CUTS), founded in part in 1971 by Dr. Bill Krispin and
Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pa. CUTS saw its
beginning in the Westminster Ministerial Institute that
year when three African-American pastors approached
Westminster Theological Seminary (WTS) through
Krispin with a desire to further their ministry and
theological training.
During the '70s, WTS offered a
certificate program for urban
church leaders that reached
an enrollment of about 100.
By 1975, it became apparent that the Institute needed
to offer an undergraduate degree in the Philadelphia
area due to the fact that students in the certificate
program were unable to enroll in a seminary without
a bachelor's degree. A steering committee worked to
find an educational partner willing to offer a degree
program in the evenings for urban church leaders.
Geneva College was the first to serve as the " umbrella "
for such a program.
Consequently, it was determined that a Philadelphia
organization should house and administer a program
under Geneva College's oversight. As a result, CUTS
was founded in 1978 and provided a location and staff
to facilitate the academic program. At the outset, CUTS
was owned and operated by an urban and reformed
network of churches.
In 2012, CUTS began the effort to find a new
educational partner, and by that spring, a memo of
understanding was developed by CUTS and Lancaster
