Driving new revenue to your organization through
planned giving: Simple strategies to transform
your financial picture and your donor's level of
engagement | Dave Warren, Elyse Kauffman
Prepare to be energized at this session by the ways
planned giving can transform your organization's
financial trajectory and meet your donors' desire
for meaning and purpose. You'll learn easy steps to
launch or deepen planned giving strategies. You'll
also gain understanding and comfort with identifying
your donors' passions and discussing planned giving
tools that meet donors' needs and advance your
mission. This session covers best practices of planned
giving used by industry leaders to increase both
revenue and donor engagement. Further background
information: This session is clear and simple enough
for a professional who is new to planned giving but
robust enough that even seasoned nonprofit leaders
and development professionals will learn something
new. The presenters will also cover overall approaches
to planned giving as well as dive deeper into specific
creative planned giving tools including Charitable Gift
Annuities (CGAs), Charitable Remainder Trusts (CRTs),
Donor Advised Funds (DAFs), Bequests and new Donor
Designated Funds. Their focus will be on mobilizing
donors to give in a way that activates their passions
and advances the mission of your organization. Their
goal is that participants leave this session energized
to talk with donors about planned giving options.
This session will also touch on other creative giving
opportunities like how to facilitate donors who want
to gift real estate, art collections, life insurance, farm
commodities and retirement assets - as well as how to
find a partner who can help to facilitate those creative
gifts. The presenters are educational leaders in Central
Pennsylvania in the nonprofit space.
4:15-5:15 p.m. | 46-D
Information Privacy and Security for Post-Acute
Care: Strategies for Protecting Information beyond
HIPAA | Mark Mattioli
This session will explore the unique requirements
for post-acute providers and their relationship to
continuing care environments. While some licensed
providers may be outside the HIPAA purview, many
states are enacting specific privacy requirements
that apply more broadly to providers that may
not be covered entities. The specific regulations
19
governing the data is important to understand as
it drives the protection that is necessary to govern
such information. This session will review the privacy
requirements, and present multiple hypotheticals
analyzing various key issues that need to be examining
in addressing privacy and security issues.

Growth Strategy Options for Your Community |
Craig Kimmel, Amy Castleberry, David Swartley, Mary
Kay McMahon
With the first wave of baby-boomers reaching
retirement age and the tsunami of seniors to follow, the
pressure is on for Life Plan Communities (LPC) to meet
this demand through innovative growth strategies. But
growth comes in different shapes and sizes - from
traditional expansion of an existing campus, satellite
communities, mergers, acquisitions to building up
instead of out. Amy Castleberry of Ziegler will tee up
this session with past, present and projected data on
LPC growth patterns and what these trends mean for
communities planning to grow in today's economic
climate. She will discuss financial challenges and
opportunities with various forms of growth and provide
key financial guardrails for communities considering
growth opportunities. Once the stage is set, three
LeadingAge Pennsylvania Member Community CEOs
will discuss how they are meeting the need for growth
through unique planning strategies as well as broader
community partnerships. Panelists include Mary Kay
McMahon of Fellowship Community, David Swartley
of Moravian Manor Communities, and Dan Davis of
Presbyterian Senior Living. These three providers
represent small single site, medium multi-site and
large multi-site communities - providing applicable
takeaways for communities of all shapes and sizes!
This lively Q&A session will be led by seasoned
planning professional, Craig Kimmel, a senior partner
of RLPS Architects. Presenters will also explore how
growth means more than adding residential units - it
must also incorporate brand identity, service lines
and new markets. Presenters will discuss the need
to understand competition, identify gaps in current
offerings and underserved markets as key elements
in determining how, where, and why growth will take
place.
