Attendees will be empowered to apply assertiveness
skills to improve their encounters with difficult people,
increase their confidence in difficult situations, and get
their wants or needs met. Attendees are encouraged
to come with a home or work scenario in mind so they
can craft and practice delivering an assertive message.

2024 Long Term Care Provider State and Federal
Legal Update | David Marshall, Jennifer Russell

This session will review current legal issues impacting
long term care providers and preview issues to come
in 2024. For nursing facility providers, in the last year
both the Pennsylvania Department of Health and CMS
have implemented and proposed new regulations,
which include mandatory staffing requirements for
long term care providers. These new regulatory
requirements are taxing long term care staffing
like never before. This session will discuss what is
required by facilities relative to staffing requirements,
and what if anything facilities can do address these
staffing issues. The presenters will also discuss the
latest developments with respect to the Pennsylvania
Department of Health's implementation of the updated
licensure regulations and will address the impact of
those proposed changes on operations and the survey
and enforcement process since their implementation.
The session will also discuss best practices and tips
to aid facilities in preparation for surveys 365 days
a year. The presentation will address current and

proposed federal and state reimbursement changes
as well as collection and other financial issues.
Additionally, the session will discuss hot topics and
recent developments in fraud and abuse, including
recommended updates and review of Corporate
Compliance Plans, proposed modifications to the
HIPAA Privacy Rule, and other operational issues,
while providing guidance on how to address those
matters to ensure continued compliance with current
law.
