Promoting Healthy Longevity through the Arts |
Claire de Boer
Evidence suggests that social connection, ability
to cope with emotional challenges, and regular
physical movement contribute toward healthy
well-being. Creative Aging, the name of the field
that offers resources and support for professional,
participatory art and music workshops for older
adults, successfully addresses all these markers. A
robust and customized menu of arts engagements
for an older adult community can increase social
cohesiveness, improve participants' perception of
quality of life, lessen depression and anxiety, enable
expression of challenging experiences, and increase
and sustain physical functioning. Claire de Boer will
offer an overview of this exciting, data-driven field and
its potential for growth in our state of Pennsylvania,
given exceptional resources available here. Claire will
share a step-by-step description of the arts program
she designed and implemented in partnership
with leadership and residents at Cornwall Manor in
Cornwall, PA.

Strategic Infection Control: A Roadmap for Nursing

The educational session, " Strategic Infection Control:
A Roadmap for Nursing Home Excellence, " is designed
to equip administrators with the knowledge and skills
necessary to enhance infection control practices within
their facilities. The session covers a range of critical
topics, providing a holistic approach to safeguarding
the health of residents and maintaining a safe
environment.
The session begins with an exploration of the
importance of infection control in the context of
nursing homes, emphasizing the unique challenges
faced by administrators in maintaining a safe and
healthy living environment. Administrators are
encouraged to abstract the essential elements of
infection control and understand the impact it has on
resident well-being.
One of the key focuses of the session is the
performance of annual infection control risk
assessments. Administrators learn how to conduct
comprehensive audits to identify potential risks and
vulnerabilities within their facilities. Through interactive
exercises, participants gain practical experience in
assessing the effectiveness of current infection control
practices and recognizing areas for improvement.
Collaboration with the facility's infection preventionist
and infection control committee is another crucial
aspect covered in the session. Administrators
are guided on how to effectively work with these
specialists, drawing on their expertise to create a
synergistic approach to infection control.

Financing and Preserving HUD Housing | Vidhi
Anderson
This session will outline the preservation of existing
HUD buildings using various HUD financings. It will use
a recent project as a case study to delve deeper into
the RAD for PRAC subsidy and how it is being used to
rehabilitation. The case study used is a project with a
168 units located in south west Philadelphia built three
decades ago.
