Discover a host of nature activities at
this 1,165-acre park adjacent to the
Sumter National Forest. Bring the
family for fishing on two lakes. Get out
on the water in canoes, pedal boats,
kayaks, paddle boards and jon boats (all
available to rent, as well). Enjoy the 18hole
mini golf course and playground;
square dance on Friday nights. Explore
on biking and hiking trails or drive a few
minutes from the park for waterfalls

h The Palmetto Trail. (Oconee, Pickens,
Greenville, Spartanburg counties). Access
the state's longest pedestrian and bike
trail at more than a dozen spots in these
four counties. Hiking, backpacking,
bicycle riding and horseback options
cross over and through parks, forests,
historic sites, towns, mountains and
waterways. (No motorized vehicles.)
With a target completion of 500 miles,
380 are completed and reach from
Oconee County to the Atlantic coast.

The Doodle Trail. (Easley, Pickens).
Hop on this 7.5-mile multiuse trail that
runs between the cities of Easley and
Pickens. This unique rail-to-trail creation
is completely paved. It measures eight
feet wide with only gentle grades of
5% or less. Biking, running and walking
through this route are allowed along
with approved motorized equipment
such as wheelchairs and other mobility
devices. Leashed pets are welcome. YR

participation in agricultural activities.

Historic Trail. (Cherokee County).
Hike along an official segment of this
national trail along the shore of Lake
Whelchel. This portion is a 6.7-mile loop.
Walk at your own pace on a trail rated
" moderate. " No swimming at the lake

h Cowpens National Battlefield.
(Gaffney). Learn about this location and
its significance in the Revolutionary War.
Named for the pastureland, this pivotal
battle lasted less than an hour. Watch
the live-action film, see weapons from
the period and browse the bookstore.

ranger and enjoy a walk around this
