The Georges is renowned.
Take U.S. 60 east from
downtown Lexington to
Buena Vista, an Appalachian
Trail Community. This
route winds up and up
to reach the top of the
mountain where the Blue
Ridge Parkway entrance at
Humphreys Gap awaits.
Travel north on the
Parkway and head for
Milepost 34.4, the Yankee
Ridge Parking Area. A short
loop of 0.2 mile includes
a reconstructed railbed
and the 30-foot cascading
Wigwam Falls.
At Milepost 25 you'll
find a narrow drive leading
upward to 12 Ridges. Their
360-degree views will not
disappoint.
For another waterfall
stop, consider White Rock
Falls at Milepost 18.5. The
out-and-back is nearly 3.5
miles, with a wading pool at
the base of the short falls.
8 BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY
Milepost 10.7 is one of
the best overlooks in this
section: Ravens Roost. Bald
Mountain, the Alleghenies,
and the Shenandoah
Valley are included in the
180-degree viewshed.
A steep two-mile trek
to big outcrops and a big
view awaits at Milepost
5.8. Humpback Rocks is
a popular hike that may
be best enjoyed midweek.U.S.
250 back toward
Charlottesville is at the end
of the Blue Ridge Parkway
and it's a perfect time to
do whatever you may have
passed up at the beginning
of your adventure.
