Gem HIDDEN MP 393.6-443.1 A HIDDEN GEM OFF THE PARKWAY: There's much to do on the 6,500-acre site of the Cradle of Forestry (located four miles from MP 411 on Highway 276). In 1898, Dr. Carl Schenck, chief forester for the Biltmore Estate, founded the Biltmore Forest School and began the study and implementation of forest conservation in the United States. Visitors can explore seven historical buildings from the Biltmore Forest School, which operated from 1898-1914. There's also an exhibit hall, café, gift shop and guided hikes.
