VACATION SURPRISE
Carolyn Harris first met Tyler Price at work.
Though he left for a short while for school, they
began dating when he returned in October 2016.
The couple went on a fall vacation, staying
with her family in upstate New York at their lake
home. Before they headed back to Virginia, Tyler
suggested they stop at the bottom of the lake at
the docks. They headed down and walked around
for a while, and Tyler took a moment to surprise
her by getting down on one knee and proposing.
LOVE AT THE WHEEL
Carolyn wanted to incorporate their alma
mater's colors into the day, though she didn't
want fall shades for their summer day, choosing
44 | REAL WEDDINGS
burgundy, blush and peach tones. Several friends
helped create their perfect ceremony, including
their officiant, Ashley, and her husband, who
composed a Virginia Tech-themed song for the
groom and groomsmen to walk in to, along with
more traditional pieces for the bridesmaids and
bride and father's entrance.
One of Carolyn's favorite moments included
a gift from her parents - a town car for the day!
After chauffeuring Carolyn from the hotel to
the ceremony, the driver took the newlyweds
around campus. " From on top of War Memorial
Chapel to the front of Burress Hall, we finally
arrived at the Hahn Horticultural Garden, " she
remembers. " It was threatening to storm and skies
were getting dark, but we got amazing photos! "
HOKIE LOVE
For Carolyn and Tyler, having their wedding
day take place in such a special setting made
everything that much better. Their intimate
reception stayed busy with a dance floor in the
main hall, as well as a tent outside on the line
with a mini-dance floor and cornhole. Guests
still rave about the dinner, as the catering tended
flawlessly to many dietary needs. Tyler's mother,
who is " a fabulous baker, " created and decorated
the three-tiered cake herself.
" Having so many Hokies in attendance, with
both the ceremony and reception venues being on
campus, made our wedding so special, " Carolyn
says. " Everyone had such a good time celebrating
us, and also reminiscing about their school days! "
