REKINDLED ROMANCE
Susan Thompson first got to know Derrick
Spicer when he reached out to her in the early
2000s through an online chat room. " The only
kind of communication we had back then was
dial up to a connection hoping to not wake the
parents! " laughs Susan. It wasn't long before
they decided to meet in person.
The pair dated on and off for over six years
before losing touch, but their love story was far
from over. Derrick and Susan reconnected in
2019, realizing they were meant to be. They were
both decked out in orange for a 2021 Virginia
Tech football game when Derrick led Susan
to the Blacksburg duck pond and dropped to
one knee, Susan's dream ring in hand.

LOVE IN THE AUTUMN AIR
Susan has always loved fall and wanted to
incorporate as many elements of her favorite
season into their September wedding as possible.
To match the " rustic fall country " theme,
Susan's bridesmaids wore dresses in shades
of burgundy, emerald, brown, rust and red.
The flower girls even tossed leaves instead of
flower petals. Susan's beautiful bouquet was
made up of orange, red, peach and pink flowers,
including lilies, roses and carnations, and also
included berries and leaves.
The Spicers' reception tables were also
adorned with all things fall with varying mixes
of pumpkins, flowers, wood plates and candles,
creating eye-catching centerpieces.
AN EMOTIONAL UNION
The ceremony was made extra special with a
little help from Susan's family. Since both of
her parents had passed away, Susan walked
down the aisle arm in arm with her youngest
and oldest sisters.
The couple's day was filled with so much
emotion, particularly from Susan, who cried
the whole ceremony! Of every magical moment,
Susan says her favorite will always be when she
and Derrick were pronounced husband and
wife by the officiant. " That moment was the
start of our forever that we had been waiting
for for so long. We knew we were meant to be,
as we always followed our hearts and came back
to each other. "
