A PICTURE-PERFECT PROPOSAL
Renee Spaar and Cody Statler first connected
over their passion for art. They were both art
majors and ended up in the same figure drawing
class at Roanoke College when she was a junior
and he was a senior.
Cody's plan for the proposal combined Renee's
love for Christmas and ornament collecting and
their shared fondness for photographing birds.
He placed the ring inside a bird ornament on
Christmas Eve, and, as they posed for a selfie in
front of the tree, Cody slipped the trinket off its
branch " and the rest was history! "
FALLING FOR FOREVER
Renee and Cody tied the knot on a beautiful
52 | REAL WEDDINGS
fall day in the mountains. Foliage was at its
peak, pairing perfectly with their stunning
color palette of cinnamon, terracotta, olive
green, peach and cream. Cody and his best guys
matched the theme in their fun floral ties, and
Renee's classic, flowy dress was made complete
with a breathtaking bouquet of colorful blooms.
Flowers were also incorporated into the eclectic,
whimsical tablescapes, along with eye-catching
gold votives, butterflies, thrifted brass candlesticks
and tapered candles.
The couple used their artistic talents to make
their day extra personal. The venue was decorated
with pieces of framed artwork they'd created
together, and Renee used her calligraphy skills
to craft all the signage " with love and care. "
EVERLASTING MEMORIES
The reception was full of touching and lighthearted
moments. Renee's dad, cousins and the best man
all gave the most heartfelt speeches. A short time
later, Cody's groomsmen gave everyone a good
laugh by kneeling down on the dance floor to
present him with his lightsaber.
The greatest gift was spending time with loved
ones, many of whom traveled a long way for the
occasion. A Polaroid was set out so everyone
could capture memories as they were being made.
In lieu of a traditional guest book, friends and
family penned well wishes for the newlyweds on
postcards. " Having all of our favorite people in
the same place to celebrate our love was truly the
best part of our best day, " says Renee.
