Q: Tell us about your business.
I'm really just passionate about helping people
live happier, healthier lives. Fitness is the
vehicle that does that and I'm the lucky guy
handing out keys. I don't think a lot of people
know how much better their lives could
be. I created Iron Oak Fitness to change
that. Though I currently have a studio here
in Roanoke, most of my work is done online.
This allows me to help more people and
is a much more affordable option than inperson
sessions. For online personal training
to work and be exceptional, it needs three
components: A progressive program with
simple instruction made specifi cally for the
goals and experience of the client, a custom
meal plan that doesn't feel restrictive and is
designed around lifestyle, and lastly...consistent,
professional guidance and support. We
do those things really well and our clients
celebrate life-long results.
Q: How did your career path lead you
to your current position?
Iron Oak was founded in Charlotte, NC in
2014. It started with me and quickly grew
into a team of over a dozen coaches and instructors.
We offered on-site fi tness and nutrition
services for a large number of apartment
complexes and corporate offi ces who
chose to invest in the health of their residents
and staff. We had regular segments
on the Charlotte Today morning show and
were invited to pump up crowds and lead
warm ups at several events like the Komen
Walk for the Cure. We helped a lot of people
and it was great. But my plan was always to
leave Charlotte by my 40th birthday. I missed
Roanoke and I missed the mountains. I had
been working on the online platform for a
few years. When the pandemic hit, I decided
to head home and give it my full attention.
Q: What's your favorite part of the job?
I'm a geek for fi tness and love seeing people
win. The physical changes are great. My
background allows for a lot of transformation.
I've studied yoga, massage therapy,
meditation, and of course fi tness and nutrition
which makes my approach unique. So,
when a 70 year old client realizes they're
standing straighter and " life-long " pain from
poor posture has subsided...or the guy who
thought he was cursed with " bad genetics "

gains 30 lbs of muscle, it's awesome. But
my favorite part and where the real reward
lies for me, is when my clients realize how
capable they are. Fitness empowers people
and as great as the physical changes are, it
changes lives. I love being a part of that.
Q: What does it mean to you to be
recognized as a " Best of 2023 " award
winner?
I'm humbled and think it's awesome. I started
Iron Oak to inspire and offer people a
better way. That's why we're here and it feels
good to know it's working!
