I.T. SERVICE PROVIDERS 3 Chapitre I Mobile and web services Initial telecommunication networks relied on analogic technology transmitting waves of continuous signals. Analog signals are subject to distortion and electronic noise. 1G or Generation One refers to the first generation of wireless cellular technology which was deployed in the 1980s. Telecommunication moved to a digital age in the 1990s; only strings of bits are transmitted which eliminate much of the electronic noise and more information content can travel. 1G was superseded by 2G which was the first entirely digital network. Each generation outperforms the previous one in terms of bandwidth capacity or speed of data transfer. 5G is now being rolled out. Telecom operators have become phone carriers which market cell phone plans with unlimited, talks, text (messages) and data. & TECHNICAL TERMS Analogic An analog signal Bandwidth capacity A telecom operator A phone carrier A cell phone plan Analogique Un signal analogique La largeur de bande, la capacité de bande passante Un opérateur de télécommunications Un opérateur de téléphone mobile Un forfait mobile (pour téléphone portable) 213
