Thème 1 - Finance E Microfinance In developing countries small businesses and individuals often lack access to conventional banking. Microcredit and microfinance started in Bangladesh in the 1970s. Dr. Muhammad Yunus, a professor of economics thought of the principle of micro loans and won a Nobel prize for that in 2006. At first, it was demonstrated that micro loans for small enterprises and projects had a high repayment rate. Microfinance institutions offer micro- loans, micro- savings, and micro- insurance services. After early enthusiasm, the results have been judged more mitigated. Proponents say that micro credits lift people out of poverty while opponents criticize the indebtedness level they create.
