➜ Structureurs (front office)
En faisant preuve d'innovation et de créativité, le structureur conçoit de
nouveaux produits et détermine le prix des structures déjà existantes. Il
collabore avec les vendeurs qui lui transmettent les besoins des clients.
L'innovation est un moteur clé dans une banque d'investissement, permettant
de se démarquer dans un marché très compétitif. Lorsqu'il crée
un produit structuré, le structureur analyse les divers risques associés et
collabore avec les traders pour fixer les niveaux de coûts liés à la couverture
(hedging).
Les structureurs doivent aussi s'accorder et négocier avec les traders sur la
valeur des paramètres de marché utilisés pour évaluer les produits. Une
fois le deal conclu, le produit est intégré dans le book du trader qui est
chargé de la gestion des risques. Ces risques peuvent être nombreux et
complexes, et tous ne peuvent pas être complètement couverts. Le trader
doit donc adopter une gestion optimale des risques tout en respectant les
limites imposées par le département des risques de la banque.
Les structureurs doivent non seulement être créatifs, mais aussi capables
d'adapter les structures des produits en fonction des conditions de
marché qui évoluent rapidement. Par exemple, en période de forte volatilité,
il peut être nécessaire de modifier des caractéristiques du produit
pour offrir une couverture optimale ou un rendement attractif malgré
des coûts de couverture plus élevés. Le rôle des structureurs ne se limite
pas aux interactions avec les sales et traders. Ils collaborent également
avec d'autres départements, tels que la gestion des risques, la conformité
et le juridique, pour s'assurer que les produits créés respectent toutes les
contraintes internes et externes.
➜ Traders (front office)
Les traders de produits dérivés, en particulier les produits exotiques,
jouent un rôle crucial dans la gestion des risques pris par la banque.
Contrairement à l'idée reçue de spéculation pure, leur mission principale
est de protéger la banque des risques inhérents aux produits structurés en
couvrant (hedging) ces risques.
Les traders ont souvent une vision dynamique du produit car ils doivent
continuellement ajuster la gestion des risques tout au long de la durée de
vie du produit. Les risques sont variés et incluent à la fois des risques de
marché (comme la volatilité) et des risques non-couvrables. Dans ces cas,
