La contrepartie a intérêt à exercer le put qui lui permet de vendre ses actions
à 215 USD alors qu'elle pourrait les céder dans le marché à un cours inférieur.
Pour le client, il devient possesseur de titres American Express à
215 USD en répondant à l'exigence de l'acheteur du put et trois possibilités
s'offrent à lui :
- conserver les actions dans l'attente de pouvoir les revendre à un cours
supérieur au cours d'acquisition ;
- vendre les titres dans le marché au cours spot inférieur à 215 USD et
accepter une perte sur l'opération ;
- effectuer un reverse convertible à la vente en prenant une position
optionnelle inverse (vente de calls).
Cas particuliers
A * Quel nombre de titres l'investisseur va-t-il acquérir en
cas d'exercice d'un reverse convertible ?
Un investisseur souhaite réaliser un placement de 1 000 000 EUR sur un
reverse convertible à l'achat Air Liquide avec un cours de conversion à
160,5 EUR. Dans le cas d'un cours de l'action inférieur à 160,5 EUR à
l'échéance, le client devra répondre à l'exercice de l'option put composant
le produit. Le souscripteur sera alors contraint d'acquérir des actions
au cours du strike de 160,50 EUR ce qui représente : 1 000 000 EUR /
160,5 EUR = 6 230,52 actions. Ne pouvant acquérir 0,52 action, l'opération
ne peut donc porter que sur 6 230 actions. L'investissement réel de
l'opération sera alors de 6 230 options x 160,5 EUR = 999 915 EUR par
coupure de 160,5 EUR.
B * En cas d'exercice d'une option put, créant une
obligation d'achat à l'échéance, l'investisseur est-il
obligé d'acheter les titres ?
Deux possibilités existent pour rembourser un reverse convertible à
l'échéance en cas d'exercice : cash ou physique. Dans le premier cas, l'investisseur
recevra la différence entre le cours de clôture en date de constatation
et le niveau du cours de conversion, clôturant ainsi sa position en
