ANOTHER NEW NORMAL
H
ere we are again, words and pictures
painstakingly arranged so
they look good on old-fashioned
paper or the best high-tech simulacrum
we could find. At a moment
when many legacy publications are finally
pulling the plug on print, it's fun to take an extreme
contrarian posture, but it's also a whole
lot of work.
However, that work is its own reward.
Response to the ETF Innovators showcase was
so strong that we decided to spin it out into its
own publication, complete with rich video and
digital content support. (If you'd like to participate,
reach out! You know where we live.)
It's a simple idea. Advisors are finally
getting enough time between market shocks to take a deep breath and do some
deferred maintenance around the client portfolio. Some legacy solutions now look
outdated and need to be replaced. Others failed to perform as advertised. We don't
want that to happen again. Clients will actively refuse to go there again.
Either way, volatility has receded, and the relatively gentle cycle of incremental
improvement begins. This is where the new " normal " takes root. We can debate
whether it's ever a " new " normal, but the reality of life and investing means we
have to at least try to improve on the past.
Life has to get better as we get smarter. This issue we're talking to some of the
smartest people in the industry: Michael Kim at AssetMark and Aaron Wormus
at SMArtX. Great technologists, great managers. We also have updates from the
broader world of TAMPs and our 2024 list of guaranteed Advisor-Friendly Trust
Companies.
There's also a preview of one of our not-so-secret projects elsewhere in the
financial technology space . . . one that will make advisors' lives easier and give us
all plenty to think about as we look to our colleagues' best practices for clues on
how we can personally improve what we do. It sounds mysterious. It isn't.
And beyond that, we've put together the usual departments to keep the ideas
flowing and the conversation going even when you've found a way to log out and
get away from the screen. The goal here is to educate while we entertain. It's light,
it's even sassy, but if it's not actionable, it's a waste of everyone's time.
