U.S. Auto Care Industry
The U.S. auto care industry consists
of the light vehicle, medium and heavy
duty truck markets. Having weathered the
economic downturn, the industry generated
an estimated $368 billion in 2016 and is
expected to reach $421.2 billion by 2020.
The automotive sector is expected to lead
the upturn with sales of $316.4 billion by
2020, followed by the medium and heavy
duty market with $104.8 billion in sales.
This forecast is the product of the Auto Care
Association's and Automotive Aftermarket
Suppliers Association's (AASA) Channel
Forecast Model. The Channel Forecast Model
is predicting a 3.6 percent compounded
annual growth for the auto care industry
through 2020. During the same period,
the U.S. economy is projected to grow at
an average of 5 percent, 1.4 percentage
points above the auto care industry.

The auto care industry experienced a
mild decline in sales during the 2008 - 2009
economic downturn. Starting in 2012, the
industry rebounded to strong annual growth
