2017 BICYCLE FRIENDLY
UNIVERSITY AWARD HIGHLIGHTS

f you know a high school senior trying
to make the tough decision of where
to attend college next year, consider
the League's Bicycle Friendly University
(BFU) awards list as a resource to help
them narrow it down.
Every year, we receive applications
from colleges and universities of all
shapes and sizes, and from all across the
country. Applicant campuses are evaluated on their efforts to promote and support bicycling on campus based on the
same "5 Es" from the League's Bicycle
Friendly Community program: Engineering, Encouragement, Education,
Enforcement, and Evaluation & Planning. Schools that don't quite make the
cut are encouraged to make improvements and reapply when they're ready.
As of 2017, the BFU awards list is made
up of 182 colleges and universities in 45
states and DC. The full list of current
BFUs can be found online at bikeleague.
org/university, or you can search our interactive awards map at http://bikeleague.org/bfa/awards. Our smallest BFU
campus has 660 students and our largest
has over 60,000 - but what they all have
in common is the prioritization of health,
accessibility, sustainability and livability
through their support of bicycling on
campus.
Here are highlights from some of our
latest new and renewing Bicycle Friendly
Universities awarded in 2017:

SUNY CORTLAND (CORTLAND, NY - ENROLLMENT: 6,900) NEW BRONZE

SUNY Cortland's Cortland Bike Project offers free bike checkouts, semester rentals, mountain
bikes, and repairs.

SUNY Cortland developed a Bike Orientation video and quiz that all students must go through before
using the program.
