A Tale of Two Tours

about her experience on the 2021 Dust Off Tour...
W
e drove to Frederick, MD to get to the
start of the Dust Off Tour. When my
Dad and I got there, there were so
many cool BMW cars. We took lots of pictures.
Once Robert Hopkins lined up his car, we started
the tour. After a while we reached a big drain
tunnel and drove through it! We drove a little
more and we saw horses and cows. Then we
got to our rest stop. I got the idea that we could
walk up a steep hill and see all of the cars in the
parking lot to take pictures, which we did. After
that we drove through more winding roads and
reached Orr's Farmers Market. We got apple
cider donuts and apple pie at the market. We
took more pictures. We ate some of the donuts
for a snack and then headed home.
I loved spending time with my Dad and

seeing all the cool cars. My favorite car was the
red BMW (a '76 2002). My second favorite car was the new grey BMW
(an M8 Gran Coupe). I was also super excited to go on the tour with my Dad.
It was a cool tour. I loved taking photos. I liked seeing the mountains. I liked
having fun.

y kids have alternated playing the role
of co-pilot for the last four NCC tours.
As my daughter, Avery, kicked off the
NCC Tour season by attending the Dust Off
Tour, it was my four-year-old son Carter's turn
to attend the 2021 Dashing Through the
Mountains Tour. On the day of the tour we
couldn't have asked for better driving weather:
overcast and in the low 60s. After packing the
car with some camera gear, our snacks and
lunch, and Carter's favorite stuffed animal, we
left our house around 7 a.m. to get to the rally
point in Frederick, MD by 8 a.m. Arriving early
gave us a chance to chat with other NCC
members and to admire everyone's cars. At
8:30 a.m. our group lined up and headed out
for the first leg of the tour. Carter and I stayed
toward the back of the pack in my '91 318is.
In addition to the amazing roads, spirited driving, and camaraderie
amongst NCC members, one of the things I really enjoy on these tours is the
one-on-one time with my kids. We talk nearly the whole time and have the most
interesting conversations - they'll ask me to tell stories about when I was their
