An Interview with VETMotorsports Founder Peter Cline

O
ver the last couple of years, I've had the privilege of serving as a trackday instructor at the Helmets Off to Heroes events held at Summit Point
Raceway. Helmets Off to Heroes is conducted as a way of thanking our
active-duty and veteran military service members with a free, fun, and safe day
of motorsports. Those events were also
my introduction to VETMotorsports,
a sponsor of the event. I recently had
the good fortune to interview Peter
Cline, the CEO and founder of
VETMotorsports.
In a more simplistic way, VETMotorsports provides a gateway into
motorsports to those in the military community. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit our
long-term goals are the welfare of our participants, fiscal stability, quality
programming, and global domination as a brand.
dB: What is VETMotorsports? What's
your mission and what are your goals?
Peter Cline, CEO & founder: VETMotorsports's overall vision is building
a community for the military and
veteran population by providing nonclinical outreach through active participation in motorsports. We do this by
providing a grassroots effort using
motorsports to empower active-duty,
National Guard, Reserve, veteran service
members with service-connected
injuries, and Gold Star families.

dB: What's the origin story of
VETMotorsports?
PC: In my racing career (we'll use that
term loosely) I've had the opportunity to
do some pretty amazing things. Not
only on the track as a racer but in the
pits as well. When I had the opportunity to move up to a pro license, I took
some inspiration from the Top Gear
episode " Amputees Take On The Dakar
Rally " . That broadcast really inspired
me to do something greater than just
racing.
So with my sponsorship money, I
put together a team and pit crew
composed of civilians I had known
from my experiences in MotoGP. We
then solicited veterans with serviceconnected injuries. By the end of my
