President'sMessage
Welcome 2021!!! Alas, 2020 is over and saying that it was an unusual and
crazy year is downplaying it significantly. Filled with a global pandemic, racial
and political strife, and the introduction of the new M3/M4 grill has really
caused way too much stress for everyone. And unfortunately, much of it will
spill over into this year. But, while 2020 was a year most want to forget, for
NCC it was a year marked by significant and needed change. We were able to
introduce a brand new website which not only looks great but also makes it
much easier to find events and information. We unveiled our new NCC logo
which is now more modern and polished, while keeping the U.S. Capitol
to signify our D.C. area heritage. And finally, our beloved magazine,
der Bayerische (dB), transitioned to a more robust, online format. By the way,
did you know that it was just 10 years ago that dB transitioned to color print?
It's hard to imagine, but that was a big deal back then. dB continues to be the
premier magazine of any CCA chapter with amazing photography, great
stories, and a professional staff that is second to none. Thus far, we have
received great feedback from members and sponsors regarding all of these
changes, and while it's been a tough process, NCC will ensure that members
continue to be the focus of this great chapter.
Usually in this column, I'm announcing the details for our Annual
Membership Meeting. It's one of my favorite events of the year, but with
COVID still lurking around we've decided to push it to the Spring.
This allows for an outside event which is a lot more pandemic-friendly and
provides social distancing for those in attendance. Look for more information
in the coming months on our website and in email blasts; you won't want to
miss this shindig!
And since this is the first issue of the year, I want to assure everyone that
we'll still have plenty to do as BMW enthusiasts. As of this writing in late
2020, we're already securing dates for autocross and HPDE at Summit Point,
as well as planning for a full calendar for Tours, Karting, and ///M Club Day at
the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg. Virtually, we will continue with
our iRacing league and are lining up several webinars, so stay tuned for those
announcements. Nationally, we always plan for the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand
Prix in July and Oktoberfest, which will be held this year in conjunction with
the famed Hilton Head Islands Concours! Heralded as better than Monterey
Week and the Pebble Beach Concours, the Hilton Head Island Concours
d'Elegance & Motoring Festival will give car enthusiasts from near and far a
world-class, week-long show. New for this year, is the creation of the Legends
of the Autobahn East which comprises the best of BMW, Mercedes, and Audi,
in an all-German affair in which you can participate. With COVID causing
the cancellation of Oktoberfest in 2020, I really look forward to our annual
celebration with friends from across the world who share in the love of
the roundel.
So, as you can see, 2021 is shaping up to be another fantastic year of
events. While the pandemic may slow us down some, we will not be beaten.
Our volunteers will keep pace and maneuver as needed; the way they handled
2020 was an incredible feat. Without them, this chapter would fail to exist.
So much goes into planning events; our volunteers' dedication is amazing.
As we kick off the new year, I want to thank them for their continued support,
blood, sweat, and tears. The people will always make this club special,
we wouldn't have it any other way.
