the final lug bolt.
30. Attach the socket/extension
assembly to the ratchet, tighten
each lug bolt (CLOCKWISE:
righty-tighty) gradually by repeatedly following a star pattern.
31. Install the lug guide pin into one
of the front wheel hub holes
(remember, righty-tighty, leftyloosey).
32. Mount the FORMER REAR wheel
on to the FRONT hub, using the
lug guide pin as a guide.
33. Remove the socket and 6-inch ½inch extension from the ½-inch
drive ratchet.
34. Use that assembly to re-install the
front-wheel lug bolts, following a
star pattern in which the lug guide
pin occupies the last hole whose
bolt is to be installed.

35. Remove the lug guide pin by turning it counter clockwise (leftyloosey), then install the final lug
bolt.
36. Attach the socket/extension
assembly to the ratchet, tighten
each of the lug bolts gradually by
repeatedly following a star pattern.
37. Remove the socket/extension
assembly from the ½-inch ratchet.
38. Adjust the ratcheting torque
wrench to the desired lug bolt
torque - done by turning the
handle clockwise to the desired
torque level which is marked on
the wrench.
39. Use the torque wrench to gradually tighten each of the REAR lug
bolts, following a star pattern,
until achieving the desired torque
setting.

40. Carefully loosen the jack pressure
valve to slowly lower the vehicle
until the front tire just touches the
ground. You'll need a little of the
car's weight on the front tires to
keep them from slipping as you
tighten the lug bolts using the
torque wrench.
41. Use the torque wrench to gradually tighten each of the FRONT lug
bolts, following a star pattern,
until achieving the desired torque
setting.
42. Carefully loosen the jack pressure
valve to slowly lower the vehicle
the rest of the way to the ground.
Remove the jack from under the
car.
43. Repeat Steps 3 through 42 on the
OTHER side of the vehicle (don't
forget to re-tighten the jack

pressure valve before beginning
work on the other side of the car).
44. ONCE COMPLETE, READJUST
THE FRONT AND REAR TIRES'
AIR PRESSURE. That specification on a sticker located on the
inside edge of the driver's side
door.
45. Don't forget to readjust the ratcheting torque wrench to (turn
handle counter clockwise) to zero.
After reading this, you may think
the price your local dealer or
independent BMW shop charges to
perform such a service is worth the
money. But if you have the time and
desire to learn, performing this
service yourself will, in the long run,
not only save you money but also
enable you to " get to know " your car.
