He knew that he had to finish ahead of them to have a chance at the championship. Watching the race, he was able to close the gap and apply plenty of pressure. In the last stop, the Porsche did a full four-tire change and added fuel while Turner just did a fuel fill. Auberlen was able to get fully back up to speed on hot tires and an eight second lead with about 18 minutes remaining. Could Vanthoor catch Auberlen who had more or less clear track to work with, but worn tires? Unfortunately, in turn 1, while being passed by the #3 Corvette and Antonio Garcia, Garcia lost control of the rear of the car in the turn, spinning his left rear into the right rear of the BMW damaging the right rear tire and ending the hopes of the Turner Motorsports team and our CCA corral fans. It was an awful mistake by the championship-leading Corvette, ending the race and championship hopes of the Turner Motorsports team. There was no reason for them to race. There are no points given for overall position and the cars are in different classes. Bill Auberlen made plenty of room for the faster Corvette to go by. Bill Auberlen was the star of the show giving us excitement on both days in two separate race series.
