'offseason' to look back at last year and to improve upon for this year.
With no real Covid threats in 2022, we were able to pull together another
year of 120+ event days for our members. All of our motorsports
programs had great seasons, from HPDE, autocross, karting and even our
Sim Racing league. We did some incredible tours also, driving through
the beautiful mountains, MD eastern shore, and the famous Back of the
Dragon. Our DIY program was able to host events at two new locations:
RevTech in Sterling, VA and longtime sponsor Passport BMW.
But perhaps the two events that made 2022 such an iconic year were our
once-in-a-lifetime showcase at the Baltimore VDC and our incredible
turnout for the Rockville Antique & Classic Car Show. While both events
celebrated the 50th anniversary of BMW M, they also illustrated the best
of what this chapter can do. The VDC event took several years to plan with
BMW NA being able to make it one of the most memorable events I've
been a part of. For the Rockville show and on one of the best weather days
of the year, our members showed up in droves. M cars were the star of
the day as the field became flooded with both vintage and new BMWs.
Many members commented how special it was to be a part of the
festivities and later, the Rockville show committee announced the biggest
turnout ever. Nicely done for an event that was cancelled for two years
straight due to Covid.
2023 promises to be another unbelievable year with big BMW events
spread throughout. The last weekend of January is always reserved for
our CCA corral for the 24 Hours of Daytona. With the introduction of the
new GTP class, this will be the biggest IMSA change in many years and
we welcome the new prototype race car, the BMW M Hybrid V8. If you've
never been to this event, I'd encourage you to add it to your bucket list.
This worldwide kickoff of the new BMW race car at one of the most famous
race tracks ever, promises to be a must-see spectacle; BMW spent a huge
amount of time and resources to get this prototype prepared for the race
season, and we'll have plenty of CCA fans ready to cheer them on!
The rest of the year will also be filled with many fun events for CCA.
Make sure to plan for our NCC Annual Meeting this summer, our IMSA
corral at VIR in August, and this year's extended weekend for O'Fest
Forever will be in beautiful Warwick, Rhode Island in September.
Time to put in those vacation and PTO requests now because we're ready
to get this party started!
Finally, I'd like to hear more from our members. For some reason,
only about 10-15% of our members regularly attend events; that means
the vast majority are missing out on all of the fun! Are there other events
that you'd like to see? Do you want to help set up something new?
Feel free to email your suggestions, paul.seto@nccbmwcca.org, and let's
get some dialogue going. I'm always around to answer your questions
and want to ensure you're satisfied with the club. No way I'd be in this
position for more than a decade if it wasn't any fun; I still love pulling
together events and seeing members having a great time. All of our
volunteers do too, and we strive for excellence. NCC will always be
the best chapter in all of CCA, our energy and pride ensures that we
continue to be.
