2022. Being able to use the space
was a major milestone, but when
asked when the project will be
completed, James smiles and says,
" It's never done. " He's continuing
the build out by adding additional
interior finishings, a full HVAC, an
air system, an additional lift, and
more tools!
When asked what advice he
would share, James said, " Take your
budget and add 40% at a minimum. "
He also emphasized keeping
critical path goals in mind such as
getting the structure watertight
before going down rabbit holes
pertaining to heating and cooling
that add costs.
Conclusion
Jim & Diana's and Crivy's garages
are great examples of what one can
do with a ground-up garage build to
store, repair, and generally enjoy
BMWs. For both garages, there
were unique challenges and location
constraints, but creative solutions
allowed them to achieve their project
goals and have great outcomes.
Perhaps the most important thing
going into a garage build project is
having a good understanding of how
one intends to use the space. While
ground-up garage builds typically
offer a clean slate, there are
constraints that must be weighed
such as size, cost, features, and
time. Building the garage of your
dreams can become a reality with
diligent research, thoughtful planning,
and perseverance.
