President'sMessage
Wow, these last two months have been an absolute whirlwind. Car season
always brings out the best events early on since people are ready to get out
once the weather starts warming up after winter. As long as I've been leading
this chapter, I can't remember another stretch where we had one big event
after the other.
While webinars usually don't bring the same fun as in-person events,

our HPDE/AX virtual meeting¹ with Paul Gerrard, aka The Stig, was not only
super informative, but hilarious too! While he shared his impressive understanding
of the nuances of competitive driving, the stories are what we will all
remember. Tune in and see for yourself as this recording is brought to you
by long time sponsor, RRT. Next up was our annual golf outing at Raspberry
Falls, and this year was as fabulous as ever; although my round was a slight
disaster, it was great catching up with fellow members and enjoying cars and
golf all at the same time. Then came our springtime tradition of the Deutsche
Marque Concours d'Elegance, featuring the best from Mercedes, Porsche,
and BMW. For those who attended, we were treated to an incredible field of
automotive excellence. It's cool to see everyone's enthusiasm toward their
favorite marque, but the amount of time and effort owners put into their
vehicles is truly remarkable. It was a real treat to see some historic and
pristine cars and getting to know the owners revealed their deep passion.
While my April was truly busy, the event that took up the vast majority
of my time was our visit to the new Baltimore Vehicle Distribution Center
(VDC). This was over eight long years in the making, and I must say, it was
well worth it. For years, I would reach out to the VDC to set up an event, only
to get rebuffed for a variety of reasons. However, the stars aligned this time
around and BMW North America (NA) was willing to put on a great show to
commemorate the 50th anniversary of M, launch two new electric vehicles
(EVs), and unveil the VDC to their biggest fans. Along the way, things
seemed to all fall into place, and everything I asked for was granted.
BMW NA spent elaborately to get specific cars and displays transported in,
as well as readying their product specialists to really hammer home how
everything works. It was incredible to see extremely rare BMWs, like the Jeff
Koons M850i, the M5 CS, and the first-ever M motorcycle, the M 1000 RR,
but the interaction between members, BMW specialists, and the VDC staff
was a sight to see. As the day was marred by torrential rain, all that gloominess
seemed to go away when we all started to geek out over what we were
able to experience. It's rare that the BMW employees get to have customer
interaction, especially those at the VDC and the technical staff, and they were
right at home with a bunch of enthusiasts asking questions and picking their
brains to understand the technology and quality processes that make
BMWs Ultimate Driving Machines. To say we were impressed is a true
understatement.
Our VDC visit was truly an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime
occurrence. We may never be able to duplicate the experience, especially
given what BMW NA was able to bring to the table this time. I want to thank
all the senior leaders at BMW NA who made this possible and the VDC
employees who were the perfect hosts. As much as I'd love to make a return
trip, maybe we should let this standalone event become one of the true highlights
of the past decade.
While getting through NCC's busy stretch was both exhausting and fun,
we have plenty more to look forward to. For motorsports fans, our BMW CCA
car corral during the IMSA weekend at VIR is not to be missed! It's so cool
to be so close to professional racing, and our hospitality tent makes it much
more enjoyable. Catered meals, closed circuit TV, prime viewing of turns
1-6, BMW race team meetings, and parade laps on the famous VIR full road
course are all included. And for those with just a little luck, we'll have
