Cruising Through The Wild:
An Epic Dustoff Tour to West Virginia

Some said " It couldn't be done " . Others said " It shouldn't be done " .
To the " TOURMEISTERS " of the National Capital Chapter's
Driving Tours Committee, it was " Hold my Beer " !
The roaring engines, the
sleek curves of BMWs slicing
through along the road, and the
thrill of adventure - welcome to
the National Capital Chapter's
ultimate Dustoff Driving Tour!
Buckle up as we embark on a
journey with 75 pristine cars and
SAVs tearing up the roads en
route to the majestic landscapes
of West Virginia and a hearty
German lunch buffet. But
first...how did we pull this
off???
75 BMW cars and SAVs on
the first Driving Tour of the season
is a staggering number.
With 15 new and highly motivated
tourmeister leads, mids and
sweeps, controlling five running-groups,
driving from a
spirited to casual style...something
for everyone. The clouds
parted, the sun shined brightly,
and a fleet of amazing BMWs
began to arrive at the starting
point, filled with eager participants,
ready to experience why it
is called " The Ultimate Driving
Machine''. They were not disappointed.
Armed
with a detailed game
plan, powered by Herculean
individual-efforts, and embodying
a drive to succeed, the stage
was set for a history-making,
record-breaking driving tour.
What started small, grew to the
largest driving tour in NCC history, and also believed to be the largest of any
CCA chapter nationwide so far. To say this was amazing is an understatement.
Saturday, March 30th 2024. The day has arrived. The Tourmeisters

check. Staging/Launch lane
established - check. Registration
check-in and BMW CCA Waiver
verification station manned and
running - check. Hot coffee and
donuts for 80 people - most
appreciated! TM Blake Hearn
ensured all participants had CCA
Waivers and tour rules. Tours
committee chairmen Chris Torin
and Devin Moreno took charge,
and provided the leadership,
motivation, and " hands-on "
management of this complex,
large event. Their efforts paid off!
The Dustoff Driving Tour
was not just about reaching the
Bavarian Inn, located in beautiful
Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
It was about the journey, the thrill
of the open road, the freedom of
the wind in our hair, and the bond
forged between fellow enthusiasts.
From 318s to M8 Comps,
every driver stayed on the route,
enjoyed challenging roads, and
finished without any incidents.
The tourmeisters' recipe for
success ensured that safety was
baked into all phases - and it
paid off for everyone.
The Drivers Meeting
commenced. NCC tour rules
were read aloud. Roger Lie
briefed all on the planned route,
and took questions to ensure
all participant issues were
addressed. Brian Hunt activated
assembled at RRT Racing in Sterling, Virginia. On-site preparations began in
earnest. Safety cones out, arrival and vehicle check in point established -
the staging & launch lane, with great assistance from Deb Diamond. Group
leads, mids and sweeps executed radio checks and car-count confirmations.
As the sun rose higher, each group in succession staged, lined up, and were
launched at ten minute intervals, ensuring adequate separation en route.
