Wayne became a member of NCC
BMW CCA in 1985 shortly after
purchasing his first BMW, an E12
5 Series. He swapped in a 3.5L
engine, upgraded the suspension,
and added a BBS aero kit. Wayne
says that he isn't a purist and enjoys
modifying his cars: " I'm a guy that
likes modifications. A lot of guys in
the club are purists and I don't hold
that against them, but I don't like
cars that are cookie-cutter. I like my
cars to be my cars. So when you
see it you say, 'Oh, that's Wayne's
car.' I'm a project kind of guy. Give
me something to work with - that's
all I need. "

Since becoming a member,
Wayne has been mentioned in der
Bayerische (dB) a number of times.
In 1997 and 2000 he placed in the
Deutsche Marque Concours with his
'83 633CSi and '76 2002. That
same '76 2002 won dB's Car of the
Year in 2001. In 2017, he received a
special recognition at the Rockville
Antique and Classic Car Show. In
2018, his '66 2000CS took home
" Favorite Classic BMW " honors
from NCC's Chapterfest.
While Wayne is also a member
of other marque clubs in the area, he
said that NCC is set apart from the
others: " Are there any other clubs
that can compare? We're the biggest
chapter in the country. Nothing can
really compare. BMWs are really
my car of choice. The BMW marque
has been a great experience for me.
I enjoy the camaraderie, hanging out
at the different club events, bringing
my cars out and sharing them. "
On the topic of club events,
while Wayne loves to participate in
local NCC events, he also enjoys
some of the nationally sponsored
BMW CCA events. He said, " I like
the Pittsburgh Grand Prix. I've been
many times. I also like the Vintage
in North Carolina. The Vintage is a
400-mile drive. I'm driving cars over
40 years old and it's a real test of the
fortitude of these cars, so I enjoy that.
The only two cars I've taken to the
Vintage are the '66 and '67
2000CSes. " The decals adorned to
the windows of his vehicles serve
both as reminders and badges of
accomplishment as they included
The Vintage, The Pittsburgh Vintage
Grand Prix, and the National Capital
Chapter's logo (two versions prior to
our current iteration).
Wayne has a number of special
classic-to-modern BMWs, but for
this encounter we focused on his
big coupes: a Red '76 2000CS, a
