his many club duties, Robert's ingenuity
and resourcefulness allowed
the Tours program to thrive during
the pandemic by implementing new
safety measures and protocols.
Well done, Robert!
The Grand Prize #2 giveaway
was a choice between an ///M Club
Day, an NCC HPDE event, a oneyear
NCC Autocross subscription,
10 BMW CCA Dream Car raffle
tickets, or an O'Fest Forever social
package. The barn was completely
silent as Paul read the winning
number. Ken Flotides was the lucky
winner and ultimately chose an ///M
Club Day as his prize. I'd have to
give that choice some serious
thought, but ultimately I'd opt for
the ///M Club Day too. It's on my
bucket list and I've heard nothing
but praise from our members.
The Main Prize was a certificate
for free tires provided by a long
time NCC supporter, Radial Tire Co.,
located in Silver Spring, MD.

the ticket was pulled from the jar.
Thomas Setz was holding the winning
ticket! Make good use of that
prize, Thomas. Perhaps I'll see
you at Radial Tire soon as both my
summer and winter tires worn down
to the wear bars.
After the Grand and Main Prize
winners were announced, Paul shifted
attention to the People's Choice
Car Show. The ballots had been
tallied during lunch to reveal the
winners. In the Classic category,
Kevin Grim and his beautiful 1972
2002 tii took the honors. Kevin is
the second owner of this 2002 and
has owned it for 25 years. He has
restored the car and has photos and
records of everything done, some of
which were on display at the event.
Kevin said that while it's hard to
choose a favorite thing about the car,
he likes that " it's an early, original,
Golf Yellow tii survivor (and that it's
his). "
Our NCC Karting Chair, Steve
Tenney, won the Modern category
with his 2016 M4 GTS. Steve
bought the GTS in October of 2020
after getting trading in his M4
Competition Package. He saw it as
a " chance to own a very special
BMW " . He says that " it's obviously
a very track focused car, but that
makes it very exciting on the street.
The coilover KW-developed suspension
gives the car a completely
different feel over the normal M4. "
Steve's favorite thing about his M4
GTS is that " it makes a very strong
motorsport statement. The acid
orange wheels are unique to the
GTS look and add to the car's
unique status. It doesn't take very
long during any ride in the GTS to
know what a special package it is. "
Congratulations to both Kevin and
Steve!
At this point, most of our members
were eyeing the two tables of
prizes provided by BMW of Silver
Spring. There were model cars, coffee
mugs, umbrellas, car-care products,
and a variety of BMW-branded
accessories. I felt like a real Vanna
White picking the raffle tickets from
the jar and handing them to Paul to
announce the winners. I did manage
to pull a winning ticket for my
daughter, Avery. She took home a
very nice BMW-branded insulated
mug. She'll be rocking the mug in
second grade this year, though only
for water. We'll wait another ten
years until she's allowed to put
coffee in it. ;-)
After the last prize was claimed
and Paul wrapped up the presentation,
it was nice to see that not
everyone left immediately. A good
portion of our members stayed to
continue conversations, share experiences,
and check out each other's
rides. While the raffle prizes were
great, I'd like to think that most
attend these events because of existing
friendships, the ease of making
new friends, and the desire to share
a collective automotive passion.
In addition to camaraderie, I
enjoyed seeing so many families in
attendance. While my kids are no
strangers to attending NCC events,
it was very special to see them
