Paul Miller Racing Dominates at VIR Article and photos by Steve Tenney It was with a certain amount of trepidation for extreme temperatures that we approached the end of August and the IMSA WeatherTech Championship weekend at the Virginia International Raceway (VIR). Located in western southern Virginia, VIR has been brutally hot before, but we were genuinely concerned 2024 would bring even more oppressive heat than we had ever experienced. Luck was with us and those uncomfortable temperatures moderated for the weekend. As has become tradition, the IMSA GT Challenge at VIR continued to be a GT only race event. The GTP and LMP2 cars were not part of the entry 18 for this event. Our interest for this race weekend would be the GT3 based Michelin GT Challenge, the Virginia is for Racing Lovers Grand Prix also known as the Michelin Pilot Challenge and the VP Racing Sportscar Challenge. This was also the chance to watch the Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) NASCAR Classic Series and the usual Mazda MX-5 Cup. There was plenty of racing in store.
