Member News LMHPCO Hosts Successful Art of Hospice Competition Forty artists from across Louisiana and Mississippi helped raise awareness of hospice by competing in the Art of Hospice competition, organized by the Louisiana-Mississippi Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (LMHPCO). Through LMHPCO's encouragement, many hospice providers partnered with local artists, making many of the entries a true collaboration. The 16 winners were announced at the LMHPCO Annual Conference in late July, and their winning works will now be exhibited in 16 different communities throughout Louisiana and Mississippi between September 2014 and December 2015. "These pieces of art each tell a story," says LMHPCO Executive Director Jamey Boudreaux. "We hope they will reach many people in a very moving way to help them understand the special kind of care and compassion hospice provides." Hospice of the Western Reserve Receives National Award for Green Med Practices Hospice of the Western Reserve (Cleveland, OH) became the first U.S. hospice to earn two national environmental awards from Practice Greenhealth, a nonprofit organization devoted to promoting environmental stewardship and best practices in the healthcare community. * The Ames Family Hospice House received an Emerald Award for improvements in mercury elimination, waste reduction, recycling, and source reduction programs that go above and beyond. * The David Simpson Hospice House received a Partner for Change Award for continuous improvement and expansion upon mercury elimination, waste reduction, recycling and source reduction programs. (This is a significant achievement for an older facility). The Elizabeth Hospice Recognized by Disabled American Veterans L to R: Guy Anastasia (USN-Ret.), Elizabeth Hospice Board Member and DAV National Service Officer; Jan Jones; and Congressman Duncan Hunter. 38 The Elizabeth Hospice (San Diego, CA) has been awarded the Large Employer of the Year Award by the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), in recognition of its work with Veterans. Jan Jones, RN, BSN, FAAMA, president/CEO of The Elizabeth Hospice, accepted the award at the 93rd Annual State DAV Convention held this summer. [The Elizabeth Hospice is a Level Four Partner in NHPCO's We Honor Veterans program.] In related news, Jones was also appointed to the San Diego Business Chamber's Board of Directors, effective this past July.
