reports, resulting in NHPCO
Hospice Program Integrity
Initiative used for drafting
legislation on hospice program
integrity; commented on
subsequent OIG reports.
■ S.2807, Hospice Care
Improvement Act of 2019,
introduced in Senate with
active involvement from
NHPCO staff and lobbyists.
House bill in development.
■ Continue serving as the
trusted source of information
for Congressional leaders and
staff members with 555
face-to-face meetings held
between January and early
December 2019.
■ Facilitated panel discussion at
launch of Senate
Compassionate Care Caucus
launched by Senator Jacky
Rosen who delivered the
opening keynote at IDC19.
■ Released comprehensive
hospice policy brief, Hospice:
Leading Interdisciplinary Care.
■ Partnered with Better
Medicare Alliance in hosting
two stakeholder issues
sessions exploring Medicare
Advantage and hospice.
■ Hosted virtual town hall with
staff from Office of the
Inspector General who have
been invited to participate at
LAC 2020.
■ Six special free webinars and
virtual town halls for members
on breaking issues.
■ Hosted two webinars in
collaboration with HHS Center
for Community Partnership.
■ Virtual Hill Week resulted in
over 3,300 actions from
grassroots advocates
representing all 50 states.
Regulatory, Compliance,
and Quality
■ NHPCO and HAN, along with
our lobbyists, engaged with
congressional staff on a daily
basis.
■ Ongoing meetings with
NHPCO staff and leaders from
the provider community
conducted with government
agencies to include CMS,
CMMI, OIG, GAO, and
MedPAC.
■ Launched the My Hospice
Ambassadors Program; the
summer Ambassadors fly-in
featured a day of training
followed by 56 Ambassador
meetings on Capitol Hill.
■ Supported PCHETA and the
Rural Access to Hospice
legislation.
■ Eight comment letters
submitted on proposed rules to
CMS this year.
■ Compliance Certificate
Program expanded.
■ 20 Regulatory and Quality
Alerts issued.
■ Managing Patient Travel in
Hospice Care resource revised.
■ Over 2,000 provider questions
answered by NHPCO, 95% in
less than 24 hours.
