Joe Coria won the Minnesota State
Open a record seven times, in 1934,
1940-41, 1945, 1948-49, and 1952.
He nearly won it four more times as
well. At the St. Paul Open in 1941,
then one of the tournaments on the
professional tour, Coria led the event
through three rounds before eventually
losing to Horton Smith (the first
Master's champion). Later in life, Coria
posted a 2-under 70 (his age) during
a round at Midland in 1980. He was
inducted into the MGA/PGA Minnesota
Golf Hall of Fame in 1991.
