eigh Klasse is only the third player
to hold dual Player of the Year
titles in the same year (Claudia
Pilot and Hilary [Homeyer] Lunke did so
in 2008 and 1997, respectively). Looking
back on Klasse's competitive play in 2011,
she amassed 597.50 regular and 987.50
senior points this year and remains a force
to be reckoned with on the women's amateur
golf scene. That said, with six women's
Player of the Year titles under her belt,
Klasse is still four shy of the record 10 titles
held by Pilot.
Since 1975, the MGA has awarded player
points for top fi nishes in MGA and allied
association championships, as well as select
regional, national and international
events. Notable Minnesota golf champions
who have achieved MGA Player of the Year
honors in their respective categories, include
John Harris, the 1993 U.S. Amateur
champion; Lunke, the 2003 U.S. Women's
Open champion, and siblings Tim Herron
and Alissa (Herron) Super, a two-time
winner on the PGA Tour and the 1999
USGA Women's Mid-Amateur champion,
respectively.
The fi ve competitors who have earned
the distinction of MGA Player of the Year
in 2011 join the ranks of some of the greatest
names in Minnesota amateur golf.
