Forty-five thousand entries
and two stages of qualifiers
are anticipated to produce
a field of 312 amateur competitors
who will converge on
Hazeltine National Golf Club
and the Chaska Town Course,
Aug. 12-18, for the 124th U.S.
Amateur Championship.
Organizers expect upward
of 20,000 spectators for the two
days of stroke-play qualifying and six rounds of match play. The
latter competition will be hosted by Hazeltine National which is
hosting its 9th USGA championship. Tickets for match play will
go on sale in early April, around the time of The Masters.
In 2006, the last time the U.S. Am visited Hazeltine, Aberdeen
native Richie Ramsay became the first Scot to win the championship
since 1898. He defeated the likes of Rickie Fowler and Webb
Simpson before taking down John Kelly, 4 and 2, on Hazeltine's
signature 16th hole.
800 volunteers will be needed to conduct the week-long championship,
according to Justin Armstrong, the USGA championship

On Oct. 10 of last year, the PGA of America announced that
Hazeltine National Golf Club was selected to host the 2026
KPMG Women's PGA Championship, the second oldest major
in women's professional golf, for a second visit for the championship
to the Chaska club. In 2019, Hannah Green captured
her first major in a wire-to-wire one-stroke victory over Park
Sung-Hyun. Green finished at 9-under 279 and became the third
Australian to win the KPMG Women's PGA Championship.
Rising Star
Reigning U.S. Amateur champ Nick Dunlap needed a 6-foot par putt at the
final hole to win the 2024 American Express at PGA West in La Quinta,
California, Jan. 21, for a one-stroke victory over Christiaan Bezuidenhout
of South Africa. Dunlap's 29-under-par, 64-65-60-70-259, was historic,
marking the first time an amateur has won on the PGA Tour since
Phil Mickelson in 1991 at the Phoenix Open. The Huntsville, Alabama,
native-a 20-year-old sophomore at the University of Alabama-has won
a slew of amateur titles including the 2022 U.S. Junior, the Northeast and
North & South amateur championships, the 2023 U.S. Amateur, and he
played on the 2023 U.S. Walker Cup and World Amateur team championships.
Just days later in a press conference on campus in Tuscaloosa,
Alabama, Dunlap announced he was turning professional. " It was the
easiest, hardest decision that I've ever had to make, " he says. Dunlap, who
is exempt in three of this year's majors (the British Open has not released
its exemption list yet), now has status on the PGA Tour through the end
of the 2026 season.
