2012 MGA AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP
In hindsight, there was an inevitability to Frederick
" Erik " Van Rooyen's victory at the 109th MGA Amateur
Championship on June 18, 2012, at the Hastings Country
Club. The University of Minnesota junior from South
Africa took the lead in the second round with a 3-underpar
68 and never looked back, finishing the 54-hole
championship with a final-round 73 for an even-par total of
213 (72-68-73), three shots better than runners-up Sammy
Schmitz, David Christensen and Matt Schneider.
