n land just a pitch and a putt away from
Hazeltine National Golf Club's historic
fairways, member Tim Andersen has a
vision to build the upper Midwest's fi rst
community-oriented junior golf learning facility intended
to serve youth, families and disabled golfers.
Andersen, 57, of Chaska, is no stranger to start-up
enterprises or visionary junior programs. He has successfully
conceived and launched fi ve start-up companies
in his business career and has served for more
than two decades alongside his wife, Wendy, in Hazeltine's
highly acclaimed junior golf program.
This particular venture is Andersen's fi rst foray into
the nonprofi t world, where fund-raising and sustainability
are equally important as the vision itself. The
Learning Links at Hazeltine is a 9-hole beginners' golf
course that is fl exibly designed to handle 3- and 6-hole
loops, to be walkable and accessible to physically

disabled golfers and, with no bunkers and very little
rough, more fun to play. Plans include a clubhouse,
putting course, chipping area and driving range.
" Disability access is a core design feature of the golf
course, " says Andersen, adding that the Courage Kenny
Rehab Institute and Wounded Warriors Project are
partners in Learning Links Hazeltine (LLH) to establish
programs for people with disabilities.
An advisory group has coalesced around the concept,
including retired head golf professional Mike
Schultz, Hazeltine's Director of Instruction, Mike
Barge, longtime members Ron Bach, Fred Green, Jane
Mackenzie and Ruth Travis, former Chaska city administrator
Dave Pokorney, and former MGA president
Rick Soskin.
Andersen has seeded the fund-raising with a substantial
personal fi nancial contribution-in effect,
putting his money where his mouth is-in addition
