s I write this, I'm on a Delta flight to Tennessee and
hoping that spring will soon come to Minnesota,
and with it, the opportunity to play golf. While I've
enjoyed the winter festivities of skiing, outdoor hockey, basketball
and general couch time, I can't wait to put the lightweight
golf bag on the shoulder and chase the little white
golf ball around the course once again. Our game is always
one of hope and an expectation of some extraordinary shot
that is just around the corner. This will be a summer of great
golf across the state; I'm sure a few new champions will be
crowned and hopefully we'll toast a USA victory at the Ryder
Cup at Hazeltine come October.
This issue of Minnesota Golfer has a
number of great stories, including a look
at this year's Ryder Cup captains (page
18), Darren Clarke for the European
team and Davis Love III for the USA. Just
something to whet our appetite for the
competition.
We're also featuring this year's
Evans Scholars (page 36), who
were recently interviewed at the
Minikahda Club in Minneapolis.

proud of, as he's my nephew)
for the class of 2016-17.

of our game comes from getting kids involved
early, teaching them the basics and
allowing fun to be had. More and more of

are featuring fantastic junior programs, and the USGA has
launched its " PLUS 1 " campaign, asking all of us to get a
new golfer involved. Let's focus that energy on getting our
kids, grandkids, nieces/nephews and neighbors hooked on
the game of a lifetime. Filling the pipeline with future golfers
would be our best legacy we could leave for the game.
Spring is here, let's make it an extraordinary year for golf
in Minnesota.
