Faribault Golf & Country Club is
tightly woven into forested hills and
the club has hosted many MGA events.
In fact, the club is one of the MGA's
founding members (see sidebar on
next page), and is host to the annual
Minnesota PGA Pro-Am Tournament.
Faribault's Legacy Golf is a 1998
Garrett Gill design on land formerly
owned by Shattuck-St. Mary's School.
It's a test of skills, offering a variety
of parkland and linksy holes. The onsite
Golf Grill has a full menu and also
serves breakfast.
West of Albert Lea in Alden, the
nine-hole Oak View Golf Club was
designed by Bob Carlson, who also did
Cedar River Golf Course in Adams and
the back nine at Faribault G&CC.
Green Lea Golf Course in Albert
Lea was originally designed by B. L.
Greengo (see boxout on page 16)
as a nine in 1945, then was upped to
an 18 in 1965. Green Lea is home of
the Shortstop Tournament, a popular
annual match play event. Jerry's Bar &
Grill in the clubhouse serves munchies,
" sandwedges, " and four burgers
dubbed the " Fab Foursome. "
Wedgewood Cove Golf Club in
Albert Lea is another Gill design, and
one that has harnessed nature beautifully:
Sparse trees plus some linksy
holes equate to a 70.2/124 slope/rating
from the white at 6,261 yards. A lovely
clubhouse overlooks the course, and
the Cove Bar & Grill covers all culinary
bases, including steak and seafood.
Waseca Lakeside Club is a relatively
tight and very enjoyable par 71. It's a
fun, challenging course with lots of
activity at its swimming pool, a summertime
community magnet.
Rounding out this I-35 tour are the
nines in Blooming Prairie Country
Club and Riverview Golf Course in
New Richland.
