PHOTO BY MATT SEEFELDT TIPS FROM THE PROS The Shadow Knows Try this drill to keep your head still and sink more putts. G reat putters have extraordinary imagination and touch (along with high confi dence in themselves and their method). But another common denominator they share is minimal head movement during the stroke. Watch a good billiards player and you'll see the same stillness. A wonderful stillness drill is to practice your stroke while watching your shadow. Place two tees on the green to bracket your head and notice if you stay within the tees. Excessive movement can cause mishits and direction errors. It takes a tremendous amount of willpower to stay still, but it can improve your putting immediately. * BY MIKE BARGE * Mike Barge is the director of instruction at Hazeltine National GC and a Class A member of the PGA of America. 8 MINNESOTAGOLFER Spring 2018 mngolf.orghttp://www.mngolf.org
