GOLF COURSE SUPPLY
5,476 golf courses have opened since
1985, adding 35 percent to the supply in
the U.S.
Of that number, 175 have opened in
Minnesota (also adding 35 percent to
our market). Here's the breakdown of
Minnesota courses:
Daily Fee: 351
Municipal: 83
Private: 55
Resort: 19
90%
of Minnesota golf facilities are accessible to the
public, ranking the state 10th in the nation for
public accessibility. Nine out of 10 golfers play at
public facilities in the U.S., where the median green
fee is $26.
GOLFERS
The National Golf Foundation reports golfer participation in the U.S. at 24.7 million
(2013), down 17 percent from 2005:
2000: 28.8 million
2005: 30 million
2010: 26 million
2013: 24.7 million
In Minnesota,
MGA research found that 31
percent of households included a
golfer, putting the statewide golf
population at about
654,000
