U.S. Senior Open
Qualifying
Tim Herron posted a 5-under-par 66 and claimed the sole
qualifying spot May 17 at Troy Burne Golf Club in Hudson,
Wis., into the 43rd U.S. Senior Open, June 29-July 2 at
SentryWorld in Stevens Point, Wis. This marks the first
U.S. Senior Open in the Minnesota Golf Half of Famer's
career to go along with eleven U.S. Open appearances.
U.S. Women's Open Qualifying
Amy Olson (left) earned medalist honors shooting a total of 6-under-par 138 (72-66) during
the 36-hole qualifying, May 22 at Somerset Country Club in Mendota Heights for the 78th U.S.
Women's Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif. Olson, a Fargo, N.D., native,
earned her seventh invitation to the event-with a tied-second finish in 2020 under her
belt. Bailey Tardy (right) earned the second qualifying spot to Pebble Beach with a total of
4-under-par 140 (69-71).
MGA/PGA Cup Matches
In the narrowest margin of victory in 45 years, the amateurs from the Minnesota Golf Association (pictured) edged the professionals from
the Minnesota Section of the PGA 20½ to 19½ to claim the 46th MGA/PGA Cup Matches, May 10 at The Meadows at Mystic Lake in Prior Lake.
The two sides tied 10-10 in the four-ball match-play portion while the amateurs edged the professionals 10½ to 9½ in the singles portion.
