Celebrate
T
he MGA recently closed the 2022
golf season with our 122nd annual
meeting and awards dinner. It was
a meaningful day with the election of new
officers and directors, as well as honoring
our Players of the Year, service award recipients,
and Evans Scholar and Member Club of
the Year.
The day's agenda also reminded us that
the mission of the MGA is to promote the
game and its values for all golfers, and that
your golf association provides a myriad of
services to you, your golf course, and to our
allied associations for the good of the game
in Minnesota.

Services such as the GHIN handicap system
and Golf Genius Tournament Management
Program make the game more enjoyable
and inclusive. Our team of course raters remeasure
and update the course ratings of
70 facilities each year so that your handicap
index accurately measures your ability and
allows you to compete, whether it is in MGA
level play, or at your club or even just recreational
golf among friends and family.
MGA staff manage the editorial and photographic
content on our website and in the

Minnesota Golfer magazine, not only for our
championships, but for our allied associations
as well. For the competitive golfer, we
run our championships, USGA qualifiers,
Senior Tour, and Member Days on a level
unsurpassed in the country.
We are proud of what we offer, but none
of the programs and services succeed by
staff alone. Volunteers are the lifeblood of
any association like ours. MGA officers and
directors are all giving their time and talent to
govern the MGA, and to provide the strategic
vision and daily counsel needed to administer
a top-notch organization.
Our tournament volunteers are absolutely
critical to the success of our tournament
program. From assisting with registration,
to starting, to spotting, and of course as rules
officials; this group of individuals is essential
to running every one of our championships
and qualifiers.
As a MGA member, you have already
shown you have a serious interest in the
game and being part of a club. If you have the
time and have an interest in getting involved,
please check out the volunteer opportunities
with us (visit mngolf.org/volunteers). There
is only one true requirement-a love of the
game! I think you'll find volunteering challenging
and rewarding, and you don't have to
be a rules expert to a part of the team.
It has been a great season on every level; for
the game and for the MGA. We are already
looking forward to 2023!
