ebruary is a great time of year for Sons of Norway. Elections have taken
place, the 2011 offi cers have been installed and our lodges are ready to
move ahead with new leadership. Our CEO, Eivind Heiberg, addresses
the importance of this time in his letter on page 28. I would like to second his
sentiments: I'm also excited for the opportunities this year has to offer. I feel that
the excellent leaders at all levels of our organization, combined with an enthusiastic
and committed membership, give us the potential to make 2011 a banner year.
In thinking about Eivind's call to action, I'm reminded of the 2010 International
Convention's theme, Make the Connection. Not only do we need to make
the connection with our communities, with potential members and with current
members, we need to remember the connection between the fraternal, fi nancial
and Foundation components of our organization. I like to use the analogy of Sons
of Norway being like a three-legged stool, because the stool derives its strength
from the connection between its three legs. Similarly, we get our strength from the
connection between our three areas of business. Take one of the stool's legs away
and it will fall; take away one of the three sections of Sons of Norway and we are
weakened as well.

encourage you to not only take advantage of the great
resources provided by the Fraternal Department, but
also those offered by the Foundation and your lodge's
Financial Benefi ts Counselor. By connecting with
the three parts of our organization, Sons of
Norway will be successful in 2011.
