n my last Executive Ideas
article, I introduced three
new initiatives that the
International Board of Directors
and Sons of Norway leadership
felt were central to the future
success of Sons of Norway: the
importance of enhancing the
current member experience, the
need to increase our focus on life
insurance sales and the necessity
of exploring new member
markets. If we can succeed
in these areas, we can
strengthen our beloved
organization and build a
bright future.
This month I'd like
to share with you
some of the results
we've seen so far. In
reviewing the progress
we've made, I feel very
positive. If we are to be
successful, however, we
need your continuing help
and support.

Norway faces a member retention
challenge. To address this,
we've taken steps to enhance the
current member experience. The
result has been fewer members
voluntarily leaving during the fi rst
quarter of 2011. It's a good start
and I can't wait to share future
results once they are available.
Next, we are on pace to meet
and overtake 2010 life insurance
sales numbers. We are
already within .5 percent of last
year's total number of members
who own life insurance. This is
thanks to the dedication of our
members and Financial Benefi
ts Counselors to fi nancially
strengthen the organization. I'm
very confi dent we will see great
results by the end of the year!
Finally, I'm happy to report
that we've seen a measurable
decrease in the average age of
new members recruited. As the
graph shows, the average age
of new members dropped two
years, to 55, in the fi rst quarter
of 2011. This is good news,

and I thank all our recruiters for
their wonderful efforts.
These are positive results,
but they are only the
beginning. In the future I plan
to share more results on the
Executive Ideas message board
(www.sonsofnorway.com/
messageboard). In fact, by the
time you read this, I will have
second-quarter results posted
for you with some commentary
on our progress. Be sure to stop
